David Haig Alexander creates art that transforms perception through contemporary myth-making.

Alexander's artworks respond to the stories, symbols, technologies, and belief systems that shape how people see, remember, and understand themselves.Through an evolving visual language of figures, speech bubbles, flowers, stars, pixelation, platforms, and symbolic fragments, Alexander creates works where familiar motifs acquire new meaning and viewers become conscious of how belief is formed.

<h3>I transform perception through contemporary myth-making.</h3>I create visual systems in which familiar motifs acquire new meaning, inviting viewers to become conscious of how belief is formed.This is not a slogan. It is the thesis of the work.My business is not simply creating, exhibiting, and selling artwork. Those are the visible activities. The deeper work is constructing visual encounters that change how people see, remember, interpret, and believe.I use painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, language, and interactive media to build contemporary myths from a recurring symbolic vocabulary: figures, speech bubbles, flowers, stars, platforms, pixelation, mushrooms, stacks, fragments, and other charged visual forms. These motifs are not fixed symbols. Their meanings shift through context, repetition, sequence, material, and viewer participation.A flower may become beauty, mortality, data, hope, grief, or regeneration. A speech bubble may become voice, absence, doubt, confession, performance, or presence. Pixelation may become technology, memory, fragmentation, distance, or the instability of identity. The painting becomes a place where these meanings are activated.My work does not ask viewers to accept a single story. It asks them to notice how stories become believable.That is where perception becomes myth. That is where myth becomes belief. That is where the artwork does its work.<h3>Bio</h3>Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, mixed media, and interactive forms, Alexander creates visual systems that examine how identity, memory, technology, and systems of meaning shape human experience. His work investigates the relationship between images and belief, asking how stories become accepted as truth and how familiar motifs acquire new meaning through context, repetition, and viewer participation.Alexander earned an MFA in Fine Arts, with a concentration in painting, drawing, and sculpture, from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, and a BFA in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. For more than twenty-five years, his work has been exhibited in Washington, D.C., New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, and other locations.His major and developing bodies of work include The Algorithms, Floral Algorithms, The Learning Platforms, The Commons, The Stacks, Recursion, Les Grandes Allégories, Les Petites Allégories, Felt Series, Trompe L’oeil, Portraits, Early Works, and Works on Walls. Across these series, Alexander uses recurring motifs such as figures, speech bubbles, flowers, stars, platforms, pixelation, stacks, and symbolic fragments to build an evolving visual language.Alongside his studio practice, Alexander spent more than a decade working in information architecture, user experience, digital strategy, interactive media, and product innovation for organizations including Marriott International, Sony Pictures Digital, Toyota Motor Sales, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This professional background informs his artistic interest in information systems, interfaces, communication, perception, and the construction of meaning.Based in the Washington, D.C. region, Alexander is the founder of EnoArts, an artist-led studio and platform for the creation, documentation, presentation, and collection of his work. His practice bridges the traditions of painting, sculpture, allegory, and symbolic image-making with contemporary questions surrounding technology, communication, belief, and human interaction.

An abstract colorful painting on paper which I painted in 2001 in oval sapes as look-through. Title 'Together no. 2.' - abstract watercolor art; a gouache painting on paper I painted in 2001. Size of the original art-work on paper is c. 70 x 60 cm. I experienced around 2001 these kind of watercolor paintings for myself as a kind of 'collaging' with several simple forms, but in paint. I tried to push the forms somewhat together in space, to create internal tensions in the image between the individual shapes.

I transform perception through contemporary myth-making.My work begins with a question: How do people come to believe what they believe?I am interested in the invisible systems that shape human experience. Stories, images, language, technology, religion, politics, advertising, memory, and art history all influence how we understand ourselves and the world. These systems do not simply reflect reality. They help construct it.I make paintings, drawings, sculptures, collages, and interactive works that examine this process. Rather than illustrating a single idea, I build visual systems where familiar motifs acquire new meanings. Figures, speech bubbles, flowers, stars, platforms, mushrooms, pixelation, stacks, and fragmented narratives appear throughout the work as part of an evolving symbolic language. Their meanings shift depending on context, repetition, material, and relationship to the viewer.My background in painting, drawing, and sculpture gives the work its physical foundation. My experience in information architecture, user experience, and digital strategy informs the way I think about structure, sequence, interaction, attention, and interpretation. In both painting and interface design, meaning is shaped by how a viewer moves through an experience.I work in series because each body of work allows me to build a world. Some works emerge through allegory. Others emerge through abstraction, figuration, language, material experimentation, or repeated structures. The works often develop in parallel, with one painting informing another. Over time, symbols return, change, contradict themselves, and gather new associations.Much of my work is concerned with the instability of perception. I am drawn to moments when certainty breaks down: when a face becomes fragmented, when a flower becomes algorithmic, when a speech bubble becomes a philosophical device, when a platform becomes a belief system, when a surface becomes both image and object.I do not make work to provide answers. I make work to create spaces where uncertainty can be held long enough to become visible. If the work succeeds, viewers leave with a heightened awareness of how images, stories, symbols, and systems shape what they see, what they remember, and what they believe.
